The Mandalorian: Chapter 19: The Convert (2023)

What an absolute gem. Chapter 19 almost felt like an episode of Andor in some ways, but with the Mandalorian flair. Also, it mirrors really well the end of the previous episode of The Bad Batch, ¨The Outpost¨. It poses important questions. Is the New Republic really just like the Empire but under a different name ?

Mando and Bo Katan escape an ambush situation and end up at the covert. We get such a fantastic development, as the Creed now acknowledges Bo Katan as one of the gang. Of course, she still has the Mythosaur knowledge in the back of her mind.

Doctor Pershing ends up on Coruscant, which is full of wonderful cinematography. There is a diffulty to adjust to the new life there, and Elia Kane takes Pershing under her wing. The New Republic forbids any use of Cloning technology or experiments and such, but Pershing brings up a great point, in which at the end of the day, the tech is still viable and could be useful. Elia is completely converted though and doesn't see it that way. She adheres to the new system completely, and is almost more scary under her sweet little smile.

The episode took the time to breathe and progress the story naturally, putting us in the shoes of the Doctor. It was 53 minutes without credits, but still felt like 35, which is a testament of fantastic pacing. And then you can dive right into the psychology and mentality of the characters. Ludwig excelled with the music once again. I have one or two particular moments in mind.

It almost felt like a movie and I gladly would've taken 2 to 2.5 hours of it. It has some aspects of Andor and the Bad Batch, while still keeping the Mandalorian essence intact. The Mando side of thing is also extremely compelling, and now that Bo Katan is in the belly of the beast, we might have access to a lot of interesting conversations and conflict of ideologies within the Creed in the upcoming episodes. Not one minute wasted here. Keep it going !
