The plot (what there is of it) is pretty simple. A man (George O'Brien) is happily married to his wife (Janet Gaynor). However he is seduced by a Woman from the City (Margaret Livingston). She tries to convince him to kill his wife so he join her in the City. That's about it.
This is considered a masterpiece by some but I honestly don't know why. It did break new ground in how films were directed and has gorgeous cinematography and a good performance by Gaynor. However it's also slow-moving and obvious. The ridiculously melodramatic ending had me actually rolling my eyes! Basically it's a boring drama that has not aged well. This was (understandably) a bomb in its day but has gotten a lot of critical acclaim over the years. Good direction and cinematography can't save it.
