There isn't a bad performance in this film. Tom Hardy is especially good and should have won wide acclamation for it, instead I barely remember it coming out.
This movie depicts the kind of gritty neighborhood that's long existed, right under Hollywood's nose, so well I marveled how these A-listers, including James Gandolfini and Noomi Rapace, could pull off such accurate portraits. The most memorable performance, however, was Matthias Schoenaert's who absolutely nails the kind of menace who can be found haunting such locales.
The cherry on top is this movie's message. Sometimes violence is the only answer.
