Just So So

Warning: Spoilers
This movie came out in 1942 but it seems like could have been made much earlier. An ensemble of largely stereotypical characters (escaped con, jilted husband, jilted fiancé, shady theater owner, rich father, ditzy blonde, etc.) are questioned by an excitable detective (Sam Levine) assisted by his comedy relief and straight men assistants. Wise cracking detective Van Heflin buts in while his wife (Virginia Grey) cracks wise. The victim is an evil vixen gold digger ably portrayed by Patricia Dane.

Basically the group wrapup of a 1930s style murder mystery without the buildup. The crime is solved by the detective in the last five minutes with clues we never saw.

Fast paced snappy dialogue and flashbacks keep it moving but strangely flat.
