This movie is not the watch if your looking for something novel or thrilling. This is the movie to watch if you have been craving for a 2000s -esque film. I am a sucker for the movies of the late 90s and early 2000s which have good drama and feel good elements. That is what this movie promised and delivered on.
Palnati Surya Pratap's 18 Pages is about Nikhil who after a break up finds a diary. Through this diary he falls in love with Anupama's character who is a simple women with who has a homely appeal. Things take a turn when her diary ends and he is worried as to what happened to her, so attempts to find out what happened. He finds out about the trouble she got into and how she was being protected by her ex, but in this process Nikhil was living by Anupama's ideals.
Putting it on paper, it sounds like a more intriguing story, but it is not at all complex and dealt with in a quite simple fashion. In fact, it is quite predictable. Watching with my family, we were able to call out what would happen next and it is not something I say in a bad manner. When I want a nice 2000s esque movie, that is what I expect. I could imagine a Srikanth, Jagapathi Babu, or Tottempudi Venu doing this movie in the early 2000s.
The visuals are quite stunning. I loved the color palette and how the film showcased the scenes when Anupama enters the scene. In fact, Anupama's acting is a stand out in the film. She acts as like a recent village transplant with strong ideals and a homely angle quite well, plays the typical ideal woman from the 2000s. Nikhil is decent in the role he plays, a little over the top at times, but he does it well and truly reminded me of the roles Srikanth played in his heyday.
I thought the dialogues, though cliched and mundane, helped set that feeling of happening in the past. The Bramhaji scenes generated great banter for the film. And the movie just feels good to watch.
