#3/4: Bone (1972)

(7/10):The first film directed by legendary Cult Director Larry Cohen is an odd one, granted many of his works have been odd but I especially find this one to feel a bit more different.

Bone is a crime oriented dark romantic comedy focused on a dark skinned man who does a bit of housework for a couple only for them to find out a bit about each other, they aren't who they say they are but neither is he.

What then plays out is Bone holding the so called wife hostage and forcing the husband to go out out and desperately dig up enough money to meet his demands within a given time period or he will rape her. However, ironically, they somehow bond over past trauma.

Yaphet Kotto is great as Bone and the film is scored very well but it's sense of humour is an aquired taste,if not more in line with its time,if not both.

It still made me laugh but just not at a consistent rate out out loud as it felt more shocking than funny.

It's also a film that gets grouped into the same category as Blaxploitation or Soul Cinema, most of the time but I believe I saw people say that this one is just misinterpreted as being so,however it isn't without its traits.

It's a good movie, offensive and somewhat dated, but it's got enough rustic charm that could keep one engaged.
