Season Two Review
9 January 2023
Season two of "Avenue 5" comes to a close with this episode, another decent effort considering how poor I thought the start of the season was.

With the ship in two sections, and with Spike (Ethan Phillips) having volunteered to sacrifice himself - the respective crews look to the future, with Captain Clark (Hugh Laurie) trying to negotiate their rescue with the asteroid of lithium and simultaneously get married to Elena (Leila Fazard) and Charles (Jonathan Aris). All appears to be resolved, until Spike runs another medical scan.

As with the first season of "Avenue 5" the shows improved as they ran on after a fairly disastrous start. This season has minimised a few aspects of the show that haven't been working very well. There is no need for Mia and Doug to still appear at all. In the second half of the season action on Earth is largely and wisely minimised. I thought that they had settled on what Judd's character actually was during that first run, but here he often has the cruelty back that they, wisely to my mind, wrote out of him. Mads remains the worst character though, no slant on the performance but the character adds nothing.

It gets a little bit more episodic, in this season, which seems to be another improvement. But there are still plot points that run through, such as the arrival of Justin Edwards as Cannibal Nathan Basic.

No third season is confirmed at the time of writing, but if one was to arrive I think I'd continue to watch, it's be nice if it started at the level that this has ended though.
