Rik Mayall plays yuppie Neil who is about to get married. Helena Bonham Carter plays Pandora a northern stripper who has been hired for his bachelor party.

The next day Neil finds himself in Scarborough. His friends Donald (Martin Clunes) and Nigel (Nathaniel Parker) spiked his drink, took off his trousers and thought it would be funny.

Only the train did not stop at the station where they planned to pick him up.

Luckily Pandora is on the same train and she recognises Neil from the night before. Neil panics to get back down south to his wedding, it seems Pandora is the only friend he has got despite his horrible behaviour.

The plot reminded me a bit of the British movie Staggered which starred Martin Clunes whose wedding plans are sabotaged when he is abandoned, naked, on a Scottish island. That came out in 1994.

I wondered if Dancing Queen was planned to be a movie that was pruned to be a one hour comedy drama.

I found it to be all very lightweight, the story was thin and so were some of the characters.

It was an opportunity for Helena Bonham Carter to rough it up as as stripper with a generic northern accent. The type they do not speak with in Lancashire or Yorkshire.
