In which a young (and rather handsome) Steve Martin does some classic stand-up comedy, before taking us on a comedic tour of two major Canadian cities. The jokes, one-liners and musical numbers follow each other quickly while Martin introduces us to notable monuments and tourist attractions. Not every arrow hits the mark, but enough of them do. Other viewers will pick their favorite segments ; mine was "The subway of Montréal, known for its peace and quiet".

There is a certain "Subsidized by the national tourist office" sleekness about the work, which may help to explain why you don't see Martin running away from hooligans or sleeping under a rat-infested bridge.

I don't doubt for a moment that many of the landmarks shown, which seemed so solid and stable, have since disappeared. Our modern cities eat themselves, in an ever-increasing frenzy of auto-cannibalism...
