The 7D (2014–2016)
10/10
A fun, underrated series

Warning: Spoilers
Why this show is rated so low? It's a very good cartoon, with likeable characters, fun gags and very clever stories.

I must admit I was guilty of initially overlooking this series, mostly because it was marketed very poorly (It was initially labelled as a "Disney Junior series", giving the false impression it was a show aimed at toddlers), most episodes were aired very early in the morning, and it also received very little publicity compared with other Disney shows.

Another factor was the odd connection it supposedly had with the 1937 movie. People was confused if it was supposed to be a "sequel" or a "prequel", but the thing is that, other than the names of the dwarfs, this particular series had nothing in common with that movie.

Absolutely nothing. It could have been aired in Nickelodeon without trouble, since it barely had anything to do with the Disney "canon" for that matter.

Honestly, it would have been much better if the writers claimed from the very beginning this was some sort of "alternate universe" without connection with the classic Disney movie.

Everything is different: The tone, the characters, the animation style... It's very different, but also very good, with a fun writing, similar to Phineas and Ferb, being the type of show the whole family could enjoy.

While it has its share of cutesy moments (Like most Disney shows) it wasn't a "saccharine" show aimed at toddlers.

A shame it failed to obtain the cult status it deserved, because it is easily one of the best Disney XD shows ever made.

I guess people perpetually associate fairy tales with "cutesy stuff" unless it's some dark, edgy "deconstruction".

The 7D is like a mixture of Phineas and Ferb with Shrek. A fun, charming parody of fairytales with lots of wacky shenanigans. Give it a try, and you won't be disappointed.
