Avenue 5: Is It a Good Dot? (2022)

I've really not enjoyed the opening two episodes of this second season of Armando Iannucci's "Avenue 5". This third however, whilst not wholly successful, was much improved.

The crew of Avenue 5 discover another vessel on their scanners and decide to dock with them, to see if anyone on board can help with the failing Eel tanks. They discover a space station of benign and helpful people, led by Johanna (Joanna Scanlon). Unfortunately though, they soon discover the secret of who the people are. Meanwhile, Iris (Suzi Nakamura) returns to the ship on a maintenance vessel.

I mean, it is supposed to be a comedy and this episode, particularly once the reveal of what was going on the other ship was exposed was certainly funnier than the show has previously been. You chuck in a few of Iannucci's wider regular troupe, Scanlon, Amanda Lawrence and Justin Edwards and things get even better, particular with the prospect of Edwards joining the cast from here on out.

It does, as other reviewer has pointed out, seem inconsistent with the premise of the show though. They aren't supposed to be able to control their direction very easily, hence the reason the rest of the voyage is going to take so long. So how were they able to dock with the other ship so easily. And why wouldn't they look to fix propulsion as well as the Eels. And wouldn't the result of their interaction with the ship radically alter their course again anyway? Should I not be worrying about such things, probably not, particularly when the episode is such an overall improvement on where it was. Hopefully, this'll be the upturn that this series has needed.
