Toc Toc (2017)
5/10
Sympathetic, but not transcendent
4 December 2022
The film starts with an idea: let's put together characters with obsessive behavioral disorders, spectacular, in a doctor's office and let them interact (the starting material is a play).

The technical component of the film is perfect. The direction of the actors works.

Beyond the challenge of finding the interactions to be set up between the characters, and the explanatory flashbacks, the film lacks something that would take it out of its theatrical origin: the systematic side of the plot with loops on each of the characters in turn.

The characters do not arouse any empathy, or very little. The spectator is simply an observer. Like an animal report. And is little concerned. The dramatic purpose accentuates the features and the troubles of our characters, for the need of the dramaturgy, that we understand well. But this exaggeration prevents any identification with a character. This is the main flaw that prevents it from taking off and makes it lose its breath quickly. But the final revelation finally gives meaning and linkage to what has just preceded and saves the film.
