the parents were glory-hungry too

There's so much to say on this. Bravo to the brave girl who didn't give up. Ironic that leaving her out out the Olympics as punishment actually gave her clarity and a sort of resignation. So many young girls were abused over many years. I think a red flag was that the Dr was doing it for free! But parents need to take some responsibility. You're children need to know what abuse looks like - it's a simple convo. They need to have an adult ally they can confide in. If that girl had been accepted into the Olympics, her parents were going to just keep deluding themselves that an investigation was in play and not remove their daughter from the toxic enviornment? We need to hear our kids when they speak, too. Girls are notoriously treated as though they are over dramatizing in youth and as adults! And as a side note, this is a concern of both dems and reps, contrary to what some gullible ppl believe. It's a misnomer that it only takes one person to speak up one time. One has to keep banging on the desk until they get attention. Glad these women got to see their perp get sentenced - most victims never get that opportunity.
