Tadka... Love is cooking review :

Completed in 2017, Tadka...Love is cooking is a dish served half a decade late and tastes just as stale. Adapted from a successful Malayalam romcom which I haven't seen, this is actor Prakash Raj's maiden Hindi release as a director which made its way straight to Zee5 this week without any marketing or publicity. If I have to believe the film mags, Tadka got stuck in a legal hassle after none of the cast and crew members got paid and some cheques got bounced!!

The film revolves around two couples - one is the middle aged foodie Nana Patekar who wishes to take the chance phone conversation with RJ Shriya Saran further but is too shy to meet her on a date and the second is the young Ali Fazal who goes on a date in place of Nana and falls for Taapsee Pannu who fills in for Shriya. Both try to hide each other's identities right till the climax which just drags on and on and on..

Nothing much to recommend here except maybe Nana Patekar's monologue on slapping friend Murali Sharma and asking him to respect his "space". Nana is truly excellent here!! Another remarkable scene is at a restaurant where Shriya goes for dinner with her boss who makes a pass at her. Superb!

Other than that, Tadka is a painful watch especially seeing Taapsee Pannu and Ali Fazal behaving as if they are in their teens!! Taapsee's voice appears dubbed by someone who really hates her. It is so jarring and pathetic!! Prakash Raj's direction is lacklustre with the film appearing stretched and overlong even at less than two hours. This tadka is totally pheeka and stale. Avoid it!!

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.
