Deadly Tropics (2019– )

Poor results

This tries to follow the path of excellent Death in paradise but clearly falls. Main problem is both main characters are poorly written and not very sympathetic. Main failure is that screenwriters have tried them to be police women acting like old cliché policemen (drinking a lot, always looking for sex, etc.) and these sort of masculine personalities do not benefit their characters -otherwise poorly written - at all. The idea of putting together two different personalities should work fine but the problem is that both of them end acting the same and it becomes hasting and boring. Chief has two -as usual- unbearable egotist teenage children who you wish were sent yo study abroad or else. Her police companion is sort of a free-spirited one: no real engagement, living freely in a sailboat and constantly changing partner. Writers seem to confuse being independent, strong will women with a constant look for sex and not being able to deal with children. This only shows that women can be as stupid, empty brained and superficial as cliché men characters they are supposed to portray and this is the opposite that writers want - or isn't?

Also there is a disagreeable indoctrination smell floating over this series. Many episodes are about sexual matters: assaults, sex options, abortion, prostitution,...and while it is a regular basis for today's tv shows the way they are shown is outrageoulsy focused on trying to infuse a how to act and think lesson that is usually more than morally doubtful.

Opposite to Death in paradise here we mostly only see the ugly aspects of the islands: poverty, explotaiton, misery,...so not even worth watching for the landscapes.

A wasted opportunity to make a fun and entertaing show in a paradisiacal environment.
