The Marked Heart (2022– )

Be prepared for testing your stupidity tolerance

Warning: Spoilers
I started writing this review at episode three and thought it was not as bad as many of my reviewing predecessors suggest. How wrong could I be? I started with 6 stars for a just ok attempt. The theme of this series as such is interesting, illegal organ transplants. The story around this theme is ok and kept me going right untill the final scene. But ...

A woman is kidnapped for her heart. That woman dies, while another may live as a result. Everything after this is a "whodunnit" in a pretty small setting with only a handful of key players. In such a setting from a soapy perspective it is nearly impossible to write a really intelligent scenario full of surprising plot twists en multiple layers. As a result you're left to watch a simple one dimensional story with a little soapy taste to it and with some highly unrealistic 'coincidences'.

The acting is generally poor with some of the actors making it to average some of the time. In certain scenes acting is really over the top, just swallow it if you want to. Dialogues are ok most of the time, but nothing special, as is the way in which the story develops, which is pretty straightforward, but not very likely or credible.

De final plot is just full of holes and storylines are not propely finished or worked our at all, with the storyline of the man becoming president being the most ridiculous and irrelevant I have ever seen.

In order to view all 14 episodes be aware that you really need a very high tolerance for stupidity, bad acting, plot holes, over acting, hysteria, poorly executed fighting scenes, lack of credibility and plot holes.

At episode four I still found this series a nice attempt at creating something of reasonable interest. Along the way my tolerance for the above was tested and I passed, but not again.

The final episode (apart from epidode 11) was one of the worst. The most scary part: the last open ending scene that suggests the possibility of a second season. My advise: don't waste your money.

On the positive side: the actors playing respectively Simon, DJ nurse Karla and the hacking grandma definitely deserve a second chance in new series with with a better scenario writer, director and producer. The created credible and likeable characters.

Only for this reason I ended up with giving it two stars.

By the way: still wondering why the eyes and teeth of Camilla are so ridiculously blue.

SPOILERS FROM HERE ON

TO SKIP AS UTTERLY WASTE OF TIME Episode 11: the episode that was really too much over drama and over acting to take. All you need to know: Simon has gone undercover as Checo and meets Mariachi. Camilla confronts her husband with what she's found out. The rest is whining, screaming and hysteria.
