Snowpiercer: Setting Itself Right (2022)
Season 3, Episode 8

Warning: Spoilers
I know the series rationale takes a bit to swallow but here we are after 2+ seasons and it has been mostly ok.

Nevertheless some thought still need to work out and here it doesn't. This episode is the second in a row which do not deliver.

After learning some loose chance that Melanie is alive they gamble with 3000 lives on a whim. Going after Melanie is one thing but throwing caution out of the window is another. Driving the train into a volcanic acid cloud (or whatever it is) is simply so profoundly stupid it breaks the agreement with us viewers - that creative storytelling and action is ok as long as the story holds. Here it doesn't.

There is no checking of the train before going into the acid cloud and it makes no sense at all. Why the rush?

Of course there will be trouble as the equipment is old and some fake action and death happens. Sloppy writing which talks down to my intelligence. Hope it will be better but this was a serious crack.

The parallel "love story" between Bess and Audrey doesn't actually keep high hopes of the authors abilities - It is predictable and boring. No sense of importance or empathy is build into it and the hard pressed magic touch of Audrey is again out of place. Either we strive for science and technology or we strive for magic - can't do both so late in the storytelling.
