Nice to see Al Cliver get the lead role...
30 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Yes, Al Cliver being the star in a film is pretty neat as he is generally seen being gruesomely killed as a secondary character in a Lucio Fulci film such as The Beyond, Zombie and so many other Italian horror films. Too bad he is the lead in the most laughably bad cannibal film to come from the country of Italy. Kind of surprising, seeing as how Italy kind of is the country of origin for grotesque cannibal films, so graphic in their depictions that they often are banned and such. This one, it has its gross out moments, but mostly, it has people walking around calling each other's name...

The story, well a father (Al) is on a boat with his wife and daughter and strangely dubbed man. Why are they on this boat and what they are doing is not our concern! Only, there are cannibals in the area! They kill the wife and boatman and they munch on dad's arm, but then are calling the daughter white goddess which is confusing as all the cannibals are clearly white... Well, apparently ten years pass and Al goes back with the help of two confusing people who do not want to help and tell inappropriate jokes at first. Well, soon people are being picked off one by one, though one of them begins to have a heart attack or something...look, the film is very confusing considering the plot is pretty simple.

So this film is not going to win any awards for realism. All the cannibals are white, some with the trademark Italian mustaches, it makes them calling the girl white goddess laughable. The area they are doing this in is also not very good as it looks like a backyard of an estate. You can even see a large plantation style house within the 'jungle'.

So, poor Al Cliver does get to survive this movie and save the day...I guess. I mean, if by saving the day, I mean getting the entire expedition of people killed and dragging his daughter who was happy as a goddess back to civilization saving the day, he passed with flying colors! I have never seen Holocaust or Ferex which are considered two of the more disturbing cannibal films, but I have seen Cannibal Apocalypse with John Saxon, and have to say that one is way better. This thing is just horribly shot and I do believe Franco (the director) had something else he needed to do and wanted to get this thing over and done with as quickly as possible!
