Wow. Though this may contain spoilers - I am not sure it matters since the show is exceptionally dreadful. I am not sure I have watched a worse show. I suppose I watched to the end, so if that was the goal it was a success, but my how terrible and how clichéd.
A missing child cold case and a current day murder - what could the connection be? Incompetent detectives both then and now. My what could be the connection....
A plot so telegraphed that it was surprising the lead detective didn't get it even when all the evidence was handed to him on plate.
The murderer has links to working on a caravan site when a child goes missing. Why does a man who is working a 300 acre farm - a farm that takes up all their time, find time to work at a caravan park for 6 weeks - over summer. Absolultely ridiculous. Never heard such drivel in my life. It was 100% obvious his "daughter" was the stolen/missing child from the second the 2 stories were conflated.
The detectives bumble around for ages to try and crack an obvious case, and you wonder if this was aimed at being more like real life police work due to complete fail throughout their investigation?
However the clichés were what made it. If anyone hads ever seen Jack Force on the case (Armstrong and Miller) then this is an actual proper detective drama based on that.
A singing detective who listens to Jazz (ironically doesn't sing it when on stage though). Does thing's his own way - check. Won't compromise - check. Tragic backstory - check. Ghost wife to chat too - check. Disagreements with senior managment - check. Drinks in a bar - check (though this twists that by having him own a jazz bar...) amazing writing right there.
Only he can solve this difficult inter-twined case as long as he follows the bread crumbs laid out - check.
Maybe watch this and make it a drinking game - drink to every cliché - you will be hammered within 30 minutes.
