Very old-school
20 August 2022
Magnificent Bodyguards was absolutely not my style, but I sat through it to see Jackie Chan in an old ancient Chinese period costume - complete with a banged wig! This period piece is a very old-school style kung fu movie. It's over-the-top, a clear vehicle for martial arts action, and has some random (and unrealistic) gore thrown in during the fighting. If you like those kinds of movies, with the ketchup spurting out of a neck wound and fight after fight strung together with a thin script, pop some corn and have a nostalgic matinee.

Jackie stars as a revered martial artist who gets hired as a bodyguard to a woman who fears she'll be attacked while he's traveling to see a doctor. Men, women, elders, and those you least expect are lurking around every corner, and Jackie has to battle them all. Don't expect to laugh during this one, unless you're going to laugh at it. It's very 1978, and the wigs are just too much.
