Contraband (1980)
7/10
Gangsters, guns and gore galore
17 August 2022
Infamous film director Lucio Fulci was known as the Godfather of Italian Gore and it is his horror and giallo movies that most people associate him with, however he did also make films of other genres including comedy and westerns. Contraband aka The Naples Connection is a violent and fairly stylish thriller about rival gangsters in Naples, Italy. The plot is basic and easy to follow, what sets this apart is its level of violence and gore. There is a fairly high body count with very gory deaths that should please most splatter fans. And as it's a Fulci movie there is also some full frontal female nudity, one of these scenes has a woman getting raped, very uncomfortable viewing. Essential viewing for fans of Fulci, gore and European exploitation.
