6/10
Ambitious,a bit cocky and generic
6 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Had almost the same narrative beats as that of the first one and also was noticeably too generic of a mix of Asian western action flick this time complete with a foreign comic relief character usually seen in asian action movies.

I thought this one was gonna go deep into the narrative along with juicing out that scifi elements of it to the last drop while also balancing that with thrilling and gory action sequences as I was under the impression that this was going to be the finale based on the hype generating cliffhanger of an ending the first one had but that wasn't the case here.

This one was even more crammed with plethora of new characters and one too many plot points and while most of the characters were like fodders for the new protagonist to feast upon coz of the generic nature of action focused narrative the plot points also didn't hit well and the twists were satisfying if not impressive.

Shin si-ah was likeable and convincing as A1DP and Park eun-bin & Sung yoo-bin were good as the sibling duo while the rest of the supporting characters also played their part in a digestable and non tarnishing manner.

Although I found the mix of handothand/gunplay/slasher action sequences done in a fast paced and dbz esque way to be fun and thrilling along with being delighted for the involvement of more violence and gore I still found the choreography to be kind of messy compared to how grounded and neat the first ones choreography was.

Park hoon-jung here seemed too impatient and overly excited to showcase his witch world, characters and their powers in an even more grander scale so after seeing those final action sequences and the display of immense power of A1dp (which felt like too much of an information) I am extremely curious about how bigger the series concluder may or may not be.

I think that The Other One will kinda end up being the victim of middle child syndrome once the series conclude, for me...if the finale doesn't end up being a disappointment of a series concluder.

6.5/10.
