Underrated sci-fi
5 July 2022
Dr James Xavier is working on a serum to give X-Ray vision to the human eye. After the failure of one experiment, he determines to test the serum on himself. The result is a terrible success ... Ray Milland starring in a low-budget Roger Corman horror-sci-fi film comes as a surprise, especially when looking at his previously resume consisting of romantic films, however he's brilliant as the scientist who bites off more than he can chew when he messes with nature, or more specifically, his eyes. I saw this film on BBC2 and found it quite effective, haunting, and captivating. The ending in particular with Milland's eyes turning dark is quite frightening.
