Yeah, pretty good episode but very disappointed

Warning: Spoilers
I'll start by saying I liked the episode quite a lot, it was a good first part for a finale and has an interesting cliffhanger that's got me excited for next week. However, the problem with Eric Wallace is that he SUCKS at characters... and today I'm specifically talking about Eobard Thawne. I absolutely love Matt Letscher as Thawne, and after years of him being off of The Flash, I was very happy to see him return. Unfortunately his return, in my opinion, was very lacklustre. In last weeks episode, it seemed like there could have been a set up for Letcher's Thawne to becoming the Reverse Flash, having memory loss, finding a way to find super speed, and having a loved one now making him more vulnerable than ever. But no, no no no we can't have that. Wallace just loves to make old returning villains good, and that's exactly what happened to Letscher's Thawne who died and was immediately replaced with Tom Cavanagh's Thawne. I'm genuinely broken, and yeah I'm probably over reacting, but he just does not have a grip on his characters. This was his chance to create the villain origin so many fans have been waiting for for years. Instead, he literally just wastes him for nothing. I love Tom Cavanagh, but I'm sick of seeing him as Thawne when I know there's no explained, canon reason as to why he's wearing that face still. It was the perfect opportunity to have a past Thawne who, instead of being humiliated by The flash in this timeline, has his loved one indirectly killed by him (which could have replaced Iris' death and lead to a big battle in the finale) and turned bad after realising that he will never be able to save people and blames the flash for all this after losing her AND being told by Flash that he's destined to be bad... and it could've literally tied in with what Letscher's Thawne has said before. In season 2 he states that he realised he was never gonna be the flash and that he was destined to be his greatest enemy... well damn, that would've been great to go off, having Eobard from another timeline's origin story in present day! But damn it seems I have better connective ideas than Eric Wallace, who continually writes what seems to be lazy and uncreative scripts for his seasons. I really hope we get to see Matt Letscher again next season, coz what a waste for such a great Eobard Thawne.
