Sometimes ER really shows its age. From the "cure autism now" posters to the shock at a transgender individual, I wouldn't be surprised if this show ends up as a teaching tool in cultural studies. A lot changes in 20 years.
This particular episode is complex. Familial relationships are explored; everything from an abandoned newborn to a trans child to a woman abused by her son, and of course Abby and her mentally ill brother & mom. Issues which can't be solved in forty five minutes but what this ep does is shed light on societal issues which still affect us now. Just treated in a different way (one hopes...)
