Winter Ridge (2018)
2/10
Poor script, even poorer acting
4 June 2022
I nearly choked on my tea when I read in the Trivia here that the two actors playing the nurse and detective actually spent time with a nurse and a detective to help with their roles. Why would they do that? They were reading lines, their was no feeling of emotion or empathy from either of them. What was the point of the nurses time being wasted? The characters were just bland and unforgettable.

Anyway, as a TV drama this may have worked - with a different cast of better actors, and a different script. The scenery of Lynton and Lynmouth in North Devon is fantastic but constant shots of the stunning area does not a good film make.

It's a run of the mill police drama (not a psychological thriller). There's no edge to it, there's not even any dramatic scenes. There is some run of the mill acting, there is some bad acting (Dale the dementia suffering artist - this is THE worst performance ever), Mike the drunken thug, and the female doctor (hers is the hammiest performance ever).

Budge is low you never seen more than two people in a room (the detectives' office is a shoe box). Scenes with more than two people are either on a stairwell on in the open air.

Poor ending, actually a really bad ending - even laughable as it's so ridiculous.

If this is British film making than I am very very, sorry.

Trivia: the film was shot in 17 days. Well you could have fooled me, I thought it was one week!
