Okay, so I think some of the criticism is somewhat justified. The short-loved chase scenes with little Leia are definitely not directed well, and the Third Sister may not have gotten a strong opening episode.
BUT
Everything, literally everything else, is really good. Ewen has picked up the character perfectly once again, and I think it's important to remember this is the first episode of a mini series. Could of have been a movie instead? Perhaps, but I've got a feeling this is going to be an excellent character study. Seeing "Ben" all beat up, lonely, and blaming himself for the fall of Anakin (who he still thinks is dead) was great and the build up to him eventually leaving Tatooine and possibly getting back in the fight was really well done.
