So I've read reviewers here seems to have missed the point. And in my understanding it wasn't the evil who took her eyes out, rather it's herself for getting too many disturbing, horrific visions of the future she's gotten from the evil. Basically she's a hero for not giving up on humanity after seeing all those things the evil can cause. Pretty cool.
