Gory and campy
16 May 2022
It does help to have certain knowledge about the turbulent history of Wroclaw (Breslau) the biggest city in Selesia region. The city used to be part of Hungary, Bohemia, Germany and after the Worl War II become Poland. "The Plagues of Breslau" is an unusual serial killer movie. Rough, raw, gory and campy at the same time. These killings are not just violent perversions of a disturbed mind, but an indictment of a society that drowns in corruption and greed. Today Poland with its right-wing, cloyingly pious government doesn't have much time for the plight of average people. Hence the plagues... Or perhaps these hypocrites are sort of a plague themselves.
