Black Sands (2021– )
2/10
Great premise, dreadful execution, prepare to be bored to death.

Warning: Spoilers
Black Sands starts off well enough, a suspicious death and a predictably dysfunctional policewoman escaping her city life to return to her even more dysfunctional home town that she had ironically escaped from years ago.

Pretty quickly it gets silly and the crime seems almost forgotten amidst the web of relationships between the main characters. I am not a prude, but the protracted sex scenes and the inevitable and irrelevant references to the full spectrum of sexual preferences does nothing for the story, assuming you are watching it to enjoy some dark and grisly crime.

Anita, the main character is obnoxious. Salomon, the only doctor in the village, is too good to be true and it takes until episode 6 before the crime becomes part of the story. Episode 7 is the big reveal, but honestly I picked whodunnit well beforehand due to the limited range of characters and their presentation. Am forcing myself to see it out, only one to go... hopefully they will all be annihilated by some cosmic force and at least then I will feel justice has been done.

Watch for a surprise cameo by "Conchita" the bearded lady Eurovision winner... Could it get any sillier?
