Not what I expected

Warning: Spoilers
Glad I waited to see this movie, all the hype this thing got I'd been upset had I seen it then. It was good to say the least but there were a few characters with really nothing to do. Ronny Cox is a grand actor but hear all he really does is smoke cigarettes or offers one. He's pretty much wasted here. John Savage gives a good performance as the surviving officer but it's James Woods who runs with the whole movie. In fact he literally stole the movie with his performance. Ted Danson I thought was good but for his first dramatic role, he was right up there with Woods.

The first half was great and we learn the characters but the second it gets a bit too soap opera. The characters start to become boring and Karl (John Savage) starts doing things out of character such as stealing and at one point suicidal (survivors guilt of course). James Woods continued to shine in a performance of a lifetime. It's just not what I thought it was going to be nor went down like I heard it did. I heard a more brutal way than it actually does. Still it somehow remained entertaining.

I've seen better but then again I've seen worse, the biggest problem was too many actors with really nothing to do but say a couple lines and never seen again. Ronny Cox was the one that was more of a waste as his character was nothing more than a chain-smoking Sargent. As I said glad I waited to watch this cause I expected so much more than what I got.
