There's really no heroes journey in this movie. You never see the singers practicing at home or getting to see how they became such great singers in the first place or how they learned to have such great stage presence, it was like they were just born with it and one day they went on stage and they were fantastic.
The movie is called sparkle but it's mostly about the lead singer, the older sister and what a wreck her life is and how much she wrecks her life and her douchey physically abusive husband.
Just when sparkle starts to shine on her own the movie ends.
It's an entertaining movie but I just really wanted so much more, it was like getting a tiny appetizer when you were hoping for a big meal.
