The gritting and thrilling plot concerns an ex-fighter (Burt Lancaster in the pivotal role) , then a murder happens resulting in fateful consequences . As a subsequent investigation is carried out by an insurance investigator , Reardon (Edmond O'Brien) , into the circumstances that led to his death . As the investigator uncovers his past involvement with gorgeous , deadly Kitty Collins (Ava Gardner) . Meanwhile , two cold-bloody assassins (William Conrad , Charles McGraw give towering performances as the gunfighters) look into his past and by means flashbacks , attempting to solve leads as to why their victim calmly waits for his death and finding tracks to a lot of dollars robbery . The most suspenseful picture of all time! .One Moment with Her...And He Gambled His luck..Love...and His Life! .Bold -- because it's told the untamed Hemingway way !. She's a match for any mobster!

This noir film packs action , thrills, suspense, tension , thundering drama and a mighty punch in some exciting scenes . Burt Lancaster made a breathtaking film debut in this Film Noir master work competently directed by Robert Siodmak . Film Noir is a particular style of film , containing an enjoyable story-telling bathed in light and shadow and dealing with the darker doings of mankind . It's loosely based very vaguely on a short story by Ernest Hemingway. Trio of protagonists are frankly fabulous : Burt Lancaster as an an ex-prize fighter who's gotten mixed up with mobsters , Ava Gardner as a beautiful gorgeous Femme Fatal and shooting to stardom in one of his first films and Edmond O'Brien as a stubborn Investigator . They're well accompanied by a great support cast , such as : Albert Dekker , Sam Levene , Virginia Christine , Jack Lambert , Charles McGraw and William Conrad . And remade in 1964 The Killers by John Boorman with Lee Marvin , Angie Dickinson , Ronald Reagan and Clu Gulager , originally pretended for television but exhibited to the cinemas due a its lots of violence.

It contains an atmospheric cinematography in black and white . As well a thrilling and suspenseful musical score . The motion picture was compellingly directed by Robert Siodmak who realizes a skillful filmmaking . Robert directed Burt Lancaster in two classic Noir films titled ¨The Killers¨ and ¨Criss Cross¨. He had a long career , as Robert was a good director who made a lot of films in all kinds of genres as Quick, Son of Dracula, Chistmas holydays, The strange affair of uncle Harry, The file of Thelma Jordan, The great sinner, The crimson pirate, The devil strikes at night, Custer of the west . Outstanding in Noir Film as Phantom lady, Criss cross, The suspect, The dark mirror, The killers, Cry of the city, among others. It's a good film that ensures the nervous intrigue never lets up from the first moment and realized in efficient style by Robert Siodmak , then at the peak of his Hollywood career . The picture will appeal to Burt Lancaster and Ava Gardner fans .
