Carol for Another Christmas (1964 TV Movie)

Made for TV and brought to you by your ''friends" at the United Nations. Maybe with a little help on the side from Raytheon, General Dynamics, Northrop Grumman, Boeing, and Lockheed Martin.

It's the un-funny Christmas Carol version of Dr. Strangelove, where they keep Sterling Hayden, but this time instead of the gung-ho Brig. Gen. Jack D Ripper he's ''Scrooge." And instead of wanting to go fight godless c0mmies he wants America to mind its own business. His politics are decidely America-first isolationist.

He gets visited by the Ghost of Past Atrocities, Steve Lawrence. Who excuses all the American dead by basically saying, " yah, but other nations' boys died, too." I was appalled at the logic.

Up next is the Ghost of Whining Present, who accuses Hayden's character of hoarding while the world's poor go hungry.

And finally, the Ghost of Post-Apocalypse, Robert Shaw. Who shows Hayden that without a strong police presence around the globe, we all manage to blow ourselves up and end up with selfish populists like the character played entertainingly (as usual) by Peter Sellers.

Hayden sees the light and decides, by gum, America better not shirk her responsibilities in meddling in world affairs. For the good of the world, of course. Then he settles in for a nice glass of warm milk with his servants.

I nearly barfed.
