Red Sleeve (2021–2022)
10/10
One of the best sageuks
27 December 2021
With only 2 episodes left I feel safe to say that this is one of the best sagueks I've watched and one of the best dramas from 2021. I began watching it for the lightness and comedic scenes in episode 2 and stuck around because of the amazing chemistry between Lee Junho and Lee Seyoung. When the drama became more political I was expecting to hate it but when you have such a top-notch cast with incredible acting skills every scene becomes interesting. The acting & chemistry between the actors, BGM, directing and the costume is perfect all around.

I especially love how the drama tries to be as historically accurate as possible with the help of the original novel of course the novel author did a great job researching. Since it is historically accurate many situations would make someone from the 21st century uncomfortable yet the rawness of it makes it fascinating. The historical accuracy made me even curious to go look up more information about King Jeongjo and Uibin Seong so I can say this drama taught me a bit of history too :) Of course, as history is a spoiler and this drama was originally a novel I knew what was to come but still enjoyed it so much as I was always excited to see how the drama would interpret the scene.

Spend the duration of this drama waiting for Friday and Saturday nights, I was so invested I even watched behind the scenes, the easygoingness of the director in the behinds must have created a great environment for the actors, she's done a great job!

My only complaint is I wish there were more episodes, I'm glad it was extended by 1 to 17 episodes but I think 20 episodes would have been nicer, feels like the writing became a bit rushed towards the end because of it as the writer was too focused on the middle part of the show but rushed the end with San and Deokim's final story together.
