A dashiell hammet story! Parolee John Bradley (Bellamy) defends a woman being attacked in his own house, and fears the worst. Will he be going back to jail just for helping someone? Co-stars Fay Wray, Melvyn Douglas, Ruth Gillette. Some big names in this one! Also some major noises picked up by the mikes in the copy i saw, but the story is solid. Pretty early roles for Douglas and Bellamy. Fay Wray had been hanging around making silents and talkies for ten years! This one starts out snappy, but just drags in the middle. Keep an eye out for tall, skinny Roscoe Ates... they had him stutter in most of his roles, but not this one. Can Bradley convince the authorities that he's innocent before they put him away for good? Directed by Phil Rosen. Started in silents, moved into the noirs of the 1930s and 1940s.
