Mommy Be Mine (2018 TV Movie)
Cringey Cara
10 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
These are among my least favorite Lifetime plots: moms who let their daughters' rando friends "bond" with them. My mother, rest her soul, was very good to my friends, but she would never choose them over me and she was intuitive enough to see how this new "friend" was causing disruptions. Even though Mom didn't like Tori....was Ava's life a mess w/her in it? Uh no. Drama didn't start until Cara showed up and Mom is too self-involved to notice. I hate these plots.

If Jason (Ava's boyfriend) was as clingy as Cara, Mom Lianne would (presumably) never allow it. And yet here, she ignores the signs/doesn't support her daughter's decision about Cara, and it ultimately gets at least one person killed. She would have also asked more questions if it were again Jason or a new boy Ava met.

I just heard Ava say it's only been a week. So in a week, Ava loses her best friend AND her boyfriend...but Lianne as dense as ever can't see anything. There's too much happening in a week and it makes this movie so over the top. Mom so desperate for a relationship with her daughter, that she's letting this stranger manipulate her. After a WEEK. Oh, she also never asks to speak to Cara's father or asks Cara any real questions about her background. I mean, Ava's father is dead, but my mom and dad would never do this.

Another problem with movies like this....******** is dead..family? Other friends at school? Bueller? No one cares and the movie just moves on. Stop killing characters and just moving on like it's no big deal.

Cara is a superhuman teenager (aren't they all on Lifetime) who is all-knowing and all-seeing, and apparently her victims don't defend themselves. Utterly ridiculous. When the previous victim is explaining things to Ava, she mentions that Cara was arrested but got out on bail. Um, ok so who bailed her out? Where is that person? Movies like this with teens are much better when they are more psychological and more manipulative. Keep the murders, Lifetime. In what world is she stronger than Shawn Christian? It got so ridiculous by the climax that I was just ready for it to be over.

Cara's acting was pretty cringe, which makes for a cringe villain. Billing the movie as "Heather Locklear's daughter's debut" is ALSO very cringe, but Ava did ok for what was required. 2/10 because I finished it. I took away stars bc this sloppy murderous teen got away (Lifetime's favorite thing apparently). Remember Cara's superpowers? Yeah, she can get stabbed in the gut and get away. I guess we're supposed to believe a stab victim ended up in the hospital, but it wouldn't get reported, and the LEOs just stopped looking for a teen killer all in the same day.
