Dr. Boxer (Kelsey Grammer) and Dr. Taylor (Julia Stiles) were once an item, but still work together at a New York City hospital. They do heart transplants and sit on a committee that decides who gets the next available heart. Boxer tends to be more pragmatic than Taylor. Boxer is experimenting with animals, raising a pig that may be an organ donor. Things become complicated when he needs a heart and the son of a rich man who sponsor's Boxer's work needs a heart. The committee headed by Janeane Garofalo can not help but take the money into consideration.
