It might be that South African-style humor is an acquired taste. But the comedy aspect seemed mean-spirited and fairly shrill. The horror aspect was heavy-handed and gratuitous. I could have done without the birthing scene, for example.
The music is the most impactful attribute of the whole movie. It creates more tension than the plot and acting.
