It's actually (not) bad

Warning: Spoilers
What? Apart from episode 3 they've all been bad before now so it's better than average. Ah what's the use? There's nothing anyone can say to escape the wrath of an Eva fanboy.

Anyway, this is one of those episodes where the action takes a backseat to the characters interacting. As if things weren't already awkward enough for me in my teens, eh Shinji I mean, his father seems to have a crush on this Rei (is grownups openly having a crush on teenagers more accepted in Japan or something? First Misato with Shinji and now hi with Rei) person. Until now all we knew is that she's the other pilot and got badly injured before but in this episode we learn...a little bit about her personality, such as it is (she's quiet, shy and emotionless most of the time). As it turns out it was Gendo, Shinji's father, who got her out though he burned his hand while doing so. Of all people they pick Shinji to give her the card which needs to be renewed and while there a mishap occurs leading to his hand being on her naked breast. Oh, here we go! An accident causes the boy's hand to be in a bad place so he's going to get beaten now! Mercifully this cliche is actually avoided; well played Gainax. She then slaps him later anyway when he talks bad about Gendo. Dude got slapped by someone on his own side, just like Amuro.
