The pace, tone, and ambience the film reminds me of Marco Berger's films (Hawaii and Plan B are two of my most favorite LGBT-themed films). It has the same tensely homoerotic cinematography + natural sounds. Though it's kinda ruined by the lack of chemistry between the leads.
Still, I very much enjoyed 90% of the film.
What ruined it for me was the ending. It was very unsatisfying. Worse, it felt forced. Like they ran out of time or something. There was no real reason why it ended that way.
