Review of Summerland

Summerland (2004–2005)
3/10
Good Summer show, for this era WB...

Warning: Spoilers
It is overall entertaining, but the editing is very lacking. It's no surprise season 1 is the best, as it's the most completed one. Season 2 feels as though a big chunk of film, has been cut to fit into 13 episodes. And that two hours episode feels like a season finale. Probably that of what used to be season 2´s... The show also loses steam once they move away from its premise, and starts looking like every teen/family dramas of that time. The « bad » acting didn't bother me much. What bothered me the most, was that characterizations made characters so unlikeable, there was nothing to look forward to, as the series finale approached. Killing off one key character, in the laziest way. Was their biggest mistake. It's quite uplifting with that California setting and pop rock soundtrack. And seeing « current » stars making their debut, was also an upside of it. And it's probably what makes this series so appealing, after a certain age. Even though rewatching it, made me realize it wasn't as great as I remembered. It was simply the perfect Summer show, for the network at that time.
