Certainly not needed

Warning: Spoilers
"Fear the Walking Dead: Passage" is a little miniseries we have here, but the better description would probably be that it is a collection of 16 snippets that result in a short film that you can watch in a quarter of an hour. The show this is linked to you can find in the title as well, even if the characters are none that are featured greatly on said show. And the show itself is already a spinoff, so what we have here is basically a spinoff for a spinoff you could say. And the quality was lost somewhere along the way. I have seen the original "The Walking Dead", many seasons, but not everything. Most of it is alright. Haven't seen "Fear the Walking Dead" and what we have here does not really get me curious one bit honestly. It feels much more about being politically correct than about telling a convincing story. The zombie-like antagonists are almost not existent with the exception of two moments or so, so this could be linked to any other series pretty much with the conflicts between the (still) human characters. Early on, we have two girls who seem to be cautious and not have the greatest relationship. Afterwards, we then have a guy and a girl down in a bunker or something and their relationship also isn't the greatest.

This is then basically where the political correctness kicks in. In the end it is about strong females bonding and the evil men are out of the way. One of them seemed like a friend early on, while the other guy, who was an antagonist from the start and really only has a very small role is killed right away with some help of the biters. The male protagonist lives a little bit longer, but is also killed then before he can kill any of the two girls. It's certainly getting worse and worse here the longer it goes and seeing the two bond at the very end and being close friends out in the sunlight again was really as cringeworthy as it gets. Completely aside from the misandry here, there are other aspects that make no sense at all. Its difficult to ignore the not very likely possibility of characters showing up all of a sudden to save the day, no matter if we are talking about the guy taking the shot or the Blackm girl showing up before he can kill her friend. Of course, with the shot early on, he was just getting in the way of the White woman's progress and independence anyway, so he is not a savior. Also are we really supposed to believe said woman is scared of killing a biter, but effortlessly ready to pick up a knife and direct it at the male protagonist when she finds out about his betrayal? Please don't tell me she found her strength within these scenes there. But the worst is probably that this mess of a miniseries even received crucial awards attention. Tough to take the Emmys seriously if they nominate something like that, but at least in the case of the nominated actress here, we all know why she got it. None of the cast was remotely good, but I would not blame the actors. This had all to do with how it was written and the characters had nothing too work with. Well, nothing of quality. The only question as a consequence here is if this was a bad or just a weak watch. I will still go with the latter, but it is a really close call. The first few snippets were still alright and keep it from being a failure overall, but there was not a single moment when I had the intention to give this a positive recommendation. Absolutely skip, even if you love the show that this is linked to.
