I am a total prude and hate the swearing but I still love this show!

Yes I do hate the swearing. It makes me wince EVERY single time! No one speaks like this, they just don't. Esp. Literate clever people like these characters. I especially hate it when they shout, scream and swear right in their kids' faces. I can't even IMAGINE doing ANYTHING like that with my two teen daughters.

However, that aside, I do enjoy the show - it is strangely compelling and quirky. And I love that Alun Armstrong FINALLY gets to use his Geordie accent. The acting is decent, the storylines are fascinating and it's just really different from any other show on telly.

You can tell the parents love their kids and the Dad's parents love him to bits too so there's plenty of heart and warmth. And there are laugh out loud funny bits juxtaposed with serious sad bits.

Very well written apart from the swearing. Why it thinks it needs a constant stream of obscenity to be cool and edgy I just do not know because it would work fine without it. Martin Freeman's non verbal expressions speak volumes.
