Review of Fingertip

Fingertip (2019– )
7/10
A Very satisfying Tamil web series !!
22 March 2021
As of 2021 Fingertip can be classified as the the best ever Tamil web series produced (not many have been made by the way) by a mile. Fingertip captures our technology-hooked modern lives through the prism of the five deadly sins, it is a highly relatable, acutely watchable series about modern Tamil lives in the big cities. Every episode is the story of an average person, whose life is thrown into disarray through social media and its implications on our lives.

None of the other Tamil web series across various other OTT platforms can match Fingertip, either in its substance or quality. I am not suggesting that Fingertip is among India's best, but it is the best among all other Tamil web series. Cinematography is well handled throughout the series. The major plus factor for fingertip lays in its no nonsense screenplay, that is far from being predictable and keeps the viewer guessing. Excellent treatment given by director Shivakar oozes above average quality in its near 3 hour run. Production design, music, costumes and makeup are all par. At 180 minutes, the editor has done some wonderful work to keep up the pace across the 5 believable episodes. On the acting front Sunaina does a wonderful job in episode 1, Followed by Sanjana Sarthy in episode 3.

Overall, Fingertip is by no means a Black Mirror in Tamil as some people suggest, it is far apart in terms of writing and production quality but the web series shows a lot of promise for the future. I hope the producer Vishnu Varathan produces more such projects in the near future. A must watch for all Tamil movie audiences, who expect a little more substance than the regular run a mill potboiler stories. Fingertip will not disappoint its viewers, 6.7 stars out of 10 for the treatment instilled and the effort taken to churn out something respectable.
