I'm glad to see a movie that calls out anti-white racism as equally abhorrent to anti-black racism. Race is really just an issue between the mother and the prejudiced aunt. If the mother and daughter were the same skin color, their own conflict would have been the same. Clover is an adolescent girl who doesn't know how to cope with her father being replaced by a stepmother in a single stroke. And the stepmother is trying to figure out how to parent her. But, in real life, we can't count on ghost sightings to get us through grief.
