Warning: Spoilers
Season one had several sub-par episodes as the series really hadn't come into it's own yet, and this episode was the worst of them all. The premise is that Ricky has been invited to entertain at Fort Dix, and Lucy misinterprets the letter that Ricky has been drafted. Fred is going as well, so Ethel assumes he's been drafted too. First off, Fred was too old to be drafted. His age roughly corresponded to William Frawley's real age (he was in his mid 60's at the time) Also it was well established that Fred was a WWI veteran, which would make him ineligible to be drafted . Even Ricky, who was in his 30's at the time would most likely not be drafted unless the nation was at war. Then there was a misunderstanding where the boys assume Lucy and Ethel are expecting. Wasn't Ethel supposed to be the "older" neighbor and friend? Seems like she would have been way past her child bearing years. (and the thought of Fred and Ethel having sex! Ewww!) Ridiculous situations and plot holes galore make "Drafted" the worst Lucy episode. IMO.
