The Pride Of The Yankees (1942) : Brief Review -

A heartfelt and prideful tribute to the Inspirational Baseball Legend. You gotto have something incredible and extraordinary loaded in with most of the biopics because that's the way it looks fabulous but who cares about simple story? Well, i do care and many of the film buffs too did care about the simple story of Lou Gehrig. This man didn't have any extraordinary or dramatic or peculiar backdrop before he became a legend. He lived a simple life and yet his simple story ended up as an inspiration to many people. I would like to appreciate the makers of the film for choosing this story and putting it on screen without too much of dramatic changes according to cinematics. It might have looked better, i don't know but i liked it this way only. The story of the life and career of famed baseball player Lou Gehrig has many emotional and touching moments that are enough to break you down. The last speech scene gave me Goosebumps not because it had anything absolutely sensational or that, but because it was crafted by keeping the natural resources alive. Gary Cooper as Gehrig is outstanding in the film and this is definitely one of the finest performance of his career. If the role has naive man driven by humble nature then i bet you can't beat Gary Cooper in such roles. Teresa Wright truly ruled the year 1942 in Hollywood with an award winning performance in Mrs Miniver and another memorable performance as Mrs. Gehrig. Sam Wood as director chose simple way of storytelling which some of contemporary directors didn't preferred. Yes i agree that this film could have been on Classic level with an additional dramatic execution beating out simplicity but whatever it is, it's really great enough to give you an wonderful experience. It is better than Oscar Winner of that year but who cares? I don't give a damn to Oscar list, it sucks and it did suck with this film too.
