Sincere, passionate drama lacks voice
18 January 2021
A Turkish drama; A story about an architect in midlife crisis who visits his hometown in Northern Turkey and discovers that everything that was once familiar has now changed for the worse. The film has a theme about one man's search for spiritual redemption and cultural identity. It is a slow-paced tale with a painterly feel which suits the material though there are moments when it becomes hesitant and should provide more meaning through plot or character. There is power in the mood of loss and loneliness but this lingers as does the landscape lensing. Interesting, but lacks thematic cohesion.
