Remake in a different genre
30 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
MURDER IN THE BLUE ROOM is, you guessed it, another version of the Universal old dark house flick SECRET OF THE BLUE ROOM. It starts off on the same footing but soon goes elsewhere by introducing a trio of annoying wisecracking women called the Jazzy Belles who end up investigating the mystery for themselves. This is a film presented as a lighthearted musical comedy with none of the atmosphere of the original movie, although it does move more quickly and is funnier too, with a couple of random outre moments and good, ominous supporting characters. Not a patch on the original, mind, but for a different kind of genre it's okay.
